AURORA, CO (WKBW/ABC) - Multiple Police enforcement agencies, including FBI, SWAT, and Bomb Squad, were at the apartment of 24 year-old James Holmes. Holmes warned police his apartment was "booby trapped", after being arrested for killing at least 12 people and injuring 50 others at the Century 16 Movie theater.
The police evacuated the apartment complex and five other surrounding buildings.
"The pictures we have from inside the apartment are pretty disturbing considering how elaborate the apartment is booby trapped," police said outside of the apartment complex today. The "flammable and explosive" materials could have blown up Holmes' apartment building and the ones near it, police said.
ABC News identified Arlene Holmes, James's mother, a San Diego woman being awoken to the news and not being aware of the shooting. She immediately had concern for her son, "I need to call the police," she added. "I need to fly out to Colorado."
Holmes was a student at University of Colorado Denver Medical Campus, pursuing his Ph.D, but he withdrew in June.
In the shooting over 50 were harmed, ages ranging from 3 months-old to 45 years-old.
