A Collins man is in jail after leading state troopers on a nine-mile chase in the Town of Cherry Creek in Chautauqua County Saturday night.
Troopers observed a green Chevrolet Trailblazer parked in the Chautauqua County DOT salt barn parking lot on County Route 68 around 8:15 p.m.
As troopers approached the vehicle, the driver, 31-year-old Donald Pfaffenbach, made an unsafe start traveling east on CR-68. The troopers initiated a pursuit after Pfaffenbach failed to stop when they tried pulling him over.
Troopers pursued Pfaffenbach at various speeds between 15 and 90 MPH over a distance of nine miles for 12 minutes.
Pfaffenbach stopped his car on Center Road and fled by foot into a brush area. After a brief foot pursuit, troopers placed Pfaffenbach in custody.
Pfaffenbach informed troopers he needed medical attention after injecting heroin at the salt barn. He was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk where he was treated and released.
He was later arrested for Felony DWI – Drugs, Speeding, NYS Penal Law charges of Fleeing of a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest.
He was arraigned in Cherry Creek Town Court and is currently in Chautauqua County Jail on $10,000 bail.
