BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Did Chris Collins fire workers or did he create jobs as an investor in a local manufacturing plant eight years ago?

Collins said he saved local jobs on a WKBW TV-7 Election Special, which aired on Monday night.

A political TV ad paid for by his challenger in the race for the 27th Congressional District, Kathy Hochul, among others, says otherwise.

"That's a flat-out lie," Collins told Channel 7's Keith Radford about the claim.

"It never happened. We had 245 jobs. Here was the option: zero jobs or 245 jobs," he said.

"That was eight and a half years ago. I have 600 employees now. It's all about jobs and I've spent my career creating good jobs here in Western New York," said Collins.

Hochul defended the ad in an interview with Channel 7's Joanna Pasceri.

"Chris and his leadership team took over the company and on Monday morning there were 115 fewer people working," she said.

"So you can spin it any way you want but if you ask those 115 people if Chris Collins helped their job, the answer is no," said Hochul.
