BUFFALO N.Y. (WKBW) Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather at the Buffalo City Mission to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for the needy.

Last year, the Mission served 4,000 Thanksgiving dinners and many were hand-delivered to homes throughout the area.

But this year, there is a big problem.

The Buffalo City Mission does not have enough and they need 2000 turkeys in order to be able to feed the area's poor and homeless.

The call for turkeys at the Buffalo City Mission is just the latest warning that there may not be enough food to help feed the hundry this holiday season.

Several rural food pantries say they are also struggling to deal with increasing numbers the needy individuals.

Officicials at the Food bank of WNY say the shortage is being caused by three factors, the poor economy, cuts in Federal food program, and the reduction in donations from food manufacturers.
