(Silver Creek, N.Y.) Friday's snowstorm made driving treacherous across Western New York.

"Buffalo was the worst snowstorm that I ever have driven through. I can not see more than six feet in front of me." says Nitai Prins, who was driving from Hamilton, Ontario.

But things went from bad to worst when 4 cars and 7 tractor-trailers were involved in a chain reaction accident on the New York State Thruway near Silver Creek.

Tom Pericak from the Thruway Authority says the accident started around 11am when a tractor-trailer hit a tow truck which was assisting a vehicle on the shoulder of the road.

Only minor injuries were reported.

So many vehicles had 'jack-knifed' or were blocking the lanes, that NY State Police made the decision to close the Thruway's westbound lanes between Silver Creek and Dunkirk.

At one point, the Hamburg and Eden / Angola on-ramps to the westbound 90 were also shut down.

Traffic was re-routed onto Route 20 and Route 5.

Late Friday afternoon, the Thruway was re-opened for westbound traffic to the New York State line.
