Tonawanda, NY (WKBW-release)
Kathleen F. Ryan (64 years of age) and Jerry L. Ryan (40 years of age), both of 123 Kaufman Ave in the Town of Tonawanda, were taken into custody by Town Detectives on Wednesday afternoon and charged with multiple counts of Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief, and Auto Stripping.
The arrests resulted from an investigation which began in late December when victims began reporting that someone had removed their catalytic converters while their vehicles were parked in public lots. Many of the thefts occurred in broad daylight while a battery operated reciprocating saw was utilized to cut the convert or from the exhaust pipes.
Detectives from other local jurisdictions interviewed the suspects at Town of Tonawanda Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon to determine if they are connected to approximately 60 other thefts spanning from north Buffalo to east Amherst..
The suspects were arraigned on Wednesday March 2, 2011 in Town of Tonawanda Court. Kathleen was held on $5,000.00 bail, Jerry $10,000 bail. Their next court date is March 7, 2011 at 3:30pm.
