Buffalo, NY

Sol Estrada, a sixth grade student at Campus West gave a presentation in front of the school board instead of her classmates Wednesday night.

"it is important to me not to close Campus West because Campus West has a common goal and that is to make all of these kids, every single one of those kids out there, the 772 kids, a success," said Estrada.

Estrada even passed around a copy of her own report card to board members. Her good grades proof to the board, Campus West has transformed her educational experience for the better.

But the decision to close the school and move it off of the campus of Buffalo State College, is not up to the school board. Actually, it is Buffalo State College who says it no longer wants to continue the lease agreement with the district because the college now needs the space.

The students at Campus West say if they have to leave, they do not want to leave without each other.

The board voted tonight to try and find Campus West a new home that will fit them all, which is a major victory for parents and students. However, there are plenty of other factors that will have to be worked out, and it remains unclear if there is even another facility that could accommodate the students.
