The Williamsville School District is keeping its winning streak alive. It is the number one district in Western New York for the 10th straight year.

Its subject scores in English-foreign languages, mathematics and social studies are the best in WNY, according to Business First. Researchers analyzed four years of NYS test results from third grade through high school.

Superintendent Scott Martzloff is finishing his second year in Williamsville. He says it is a challenge to retain the number one title, especially with more than 10,000 students and 13 schools in the district. "We always do really well, but always think we can do better," he said. "And that's why we are on journey of continuous improvement. We continue to examine what we do, why we do it and how we can do it better for the future."

Martzloff says he does compare the district to others in New York State like Clarence and Pittsford to find new ways to improve. He would like to expand professional development for teachers and staff, but that is tough with cutbacks in state funding.

Other than those financial challenges, Martzloff says Williamsville is lucky to have all of the pieces of the puzzle to create a number one school district for an entire decade. "We're certainly very fortunate to have highly professional and dedicated teachers in the district who work well with all of our students," he said. "At the same time, we have students who are generally pretty motivated, parents who are supportive and our community really values and supports education. So we're fortunate to have that right recipe."
