Forty-four year old Johnette Pratt was allegedly strangled to death by her boyfriend who is now saying the whole thing was an accident according to media reports.

Pratt's car was hauled away by investigators in Columbia, South Carolina where Pratt relocated to six years ago.

Pratt's body was found inside the car which was set on fire and parked in a church parking lot in Columbia, Tuesday.

Her boyfriend of just eight months, 48 year old Darrell Griffin was charged with her murder the next day. According to media reports Griffin initially told police the two had been robbed and Pratt had been kidnapped. But Griffin couldn't provide key details to support his claims.

After initial results from an autopsy report, investigators concluded that Griffin strangled Pratt to death and tried to cover up the crime.

Pratt's good friend who lives in Cheektowaga says her last conversation with Pratt was about the Bible, which was unusual.

"She just said she was serving god now and god had blessed her and a coincidence when she was talking I had my Bible right there and I was reading it and that was just like a few months ago and I said well when you get home we'll share more scriptures together, she was supposed to come home around Thanksgiving,"

Pratt was an avid motorcycle rider and worked for Verizon in South Carolina. She had one daughter and one granddaughter.
Her body will be returned to Buffalo for the funeral and burial.

Griffin is in a South Carolina jail. His bond hearing has not been scheduled yet. Pratt's family has travelled to South Carolina and they have hired an attorney.
