Buffalo, N.Y. (WKBW) - One by one, Buffalo United Charter School students made their way back to the classroom for the first day of school. Many students had a rockin' good time.

"I try to do theme each year to get the kids excited and motivated," Teacher Carrie Owens said.

This year, it was all about the super star status in Ms. Carrie Owens class as the students headed down the red carpet and into their classroom.

"My theme is rock star and I have a paper that says you've reached supers star and you can star in your own movie," Owens said.

The other students at the school also stared in their own movie entitled "First Day of School". The kids started with a brief introduction by their Principal Tammy Messmer. They then ate breakfast in their classrooms.

Messmer said the biggest challenge is getting the kids back into the swing of things.

"We try to get the kids back into a routine and ask parents to help us with that by relieving jitters, getting them into bed early," Messmer said.

The students, including Ramia Lewis, say they are just happy to back a grade older and much wiser.

"I feel like I have more responsibilities and I'm allowed to do more things," Lewis said.

Sixth grader Demere Coker agrees.

"I felt good and very excited to meet new people," Coker said.

As for Ms Owens' class, their futures so bright, they got to wear shades.

"Lets them know we're rock stars and we're going to work hard to do the best we can," Owens said.
