BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - The relative quiet on the city's east side ended quickly Friday, when the Buffalo Police SWAT Team opened fire, discharging non-lethal rounds, on a suspect after a nearly hour-long standoff.

The incident happened on Manhattan Avenue near Shawnee just before 6:00 p.m.

Witnesses say the man began demonstrating extremely bizarre behavior, allegedly stripping naked claiming to be Tony Montana, the character from 1983 film "Scarface".

Friday's incident was not the man's only run-in with police and SWAT, according to neighbors and police officials.

Last year, the same man reportedly held a family member in the home against their will, and wound up stabbing himself with a knife before being taken into custody.

Neighborhood residents say the man becomes mentally unstable when he is off his medication, but that he is normally a good citizen, even breaking-up a fight between two teen earlier this week.

Police say the man was unarmed and alone in the house. He was taken to ECMC for evaluation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
