BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Brian Davis appeared in federal court with his taxpayer-funded public defender on Monday afternoon to face charges that he embezzled more than $40,000 of taxpayer money.
Davis was recently indicted by a federal grand jury. He was released on $20,000 non-financial bail, which allowed him to be released from custody without putting up any cash upfront.
Davis faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and $250,000 fine for each of the four counts if convicted.
The former Buffalo Common Councilman, who resigned in November 2009 after admitting to misusing his campaign funds and lying about it, received a conditional discharge for the misdemeanor conviction in early 2010.
