Saturday, Webelos (Cub Scouts) were trained in first aid skills for rank advancement. During the afternoon session, about 300 youth competed in teams of 6 against other such teams in their age group. Each team completed five (5) first aid "problems" such as sever bleeding, stopped breathing, splinting of broken bones, burns and frostbite. They are also expected to construct a stretcher and transport their "victim" in some of the cases. The scouts are taught the importance of sending for help, and taking precautions to protect themselves as well as their patients. Each team had a volunteer judge to evaluate their skills, many of whom are from local fire and rescue companies throughout the community.
