AMHERST, N.Y (WKBW-TV) - Neighbors back in their home's tonight, after a portion of Sunshine Drive in Amherst was evacuated.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Bill Oliver noticed a suspicious package alongside Sweet Home Road in Amherst.

Oliver took the box home, where he discovered a cellphone attached to several strange wires.

Shortly after opening the package Oliver called Amherst police, who then contacted the Erie County Sheriff's Bomb Squad to Oliver's home on Sunshine Road.

"It just kind of made my stomach drop," said Oliver. "That just doesn't look right, a cell phone attached to who knows what".

"Little scary when it hits that close to home," Deanna Carruba, Sunshine Road resident said. "You hear about it everywhere else on the news and everything like that and when it comes that close it's a little nerve racking."

Police still aren't sure what exactly the package was but say they will continue the investigation in the coming days.
