NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. ( Niagara Gazette / WKBW ) Niagara Falls Police detectives are looking for a mystery man who discovered the body of a woman on 98th Street early Saturday morning and then left the scene.
Investigators said the man was driving down 98th Street between Niagara Falls Boulevard and Porter Road at around 7 a.m.,when he saw the body of a 31-year-old Falls woman laying on a patch of grass between the roadway and an apartment building.
The man stopped his car and ran over to the body and after checking for signs of life, called 911.
At about the same time, a resident of the apartment building also called police and went outside. The resident said before police arrived, the motorist drove away.
"We don't really know what we have yet," Detective Lt. Mike Trane said. "Obviously, we'd like to talk to this person and found out what they know."
Trane said the woman's identity is being withheld pending the notification of her family. He also said it was too early in the investigation to discuss cause of death.
"A woman's body, lying in grass on a Saturday morning is suspicious, but it's too early to say what this is," Trane said.
