WARSAW, N.Y. (WKBW ) - It was a tragic end to an overnight search. Authorities found the body of a woman in her 20's, reportedly from Tonawanda, in Warsaw Falls Thursday morning.
According to Warsaw Police, a relative of the woman reported her missing around 8 p.m. Wednesday night. That person told police that she had reason to believe the young woman would be in Warsaw Park or at Warsaw Falls.
Police began an extensive four-hour foot search around 1a.m. Thursday morning. They soon came across footprints that lead them to believe the woman was indeed nearby.
Many rescue crews were on the scene including the Warsaw Police Department, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, numerous fire departments, Erie County Sheriff’s Air One Helicopter and the Castile/Springville Water Rescue Team.
The body was recovered at the bottom of the falls on the bank of the creek bed by the rope and water rescue team around 7 a.m.
Police do confirm that this is the body of the missing Tonawanda woman. No foul play is suspected. The identity of the woman will be released as soon as her family is notified.
