BUFFALO (WKBW) Children's Hospital may not sound like the ideal place someone would choose to spend their birthday, but for one local Western New Yorker, she is using this as an opportunity; not for what she can get, but what she can give.

"I was thinking, I'm getting older in life and I really want to do something special," Carol Przybysz said.

So she decided she would ask all her family and friends not to buy her a 50th birthday present, but instead buy a toy for a sick child. And the response was huge.

"It was overwhelming, I was joyed. My heart was pounding because I knew that we had special gifts for the children," Przybysz said.

So on Monday, her actual birthday, Carol spent the day personally giving those toys to the kids at Children's Hospital.

"What a wonderful and generous thought. To think of so many other kids and not think of yourself on your birthday," Child Life Specialist at Children's Hospital Tara Young said.

"It's great. It's a great feeling. And I think that more people should do it and try it because it is a feeling you'll never forget," Przybysz added.

Little faces lit up at the sight of Barbie dolls and Hot Wheels cars. A gift from a complete stranger, a gift just for them.

"Usually the kids can't believe it. 'For me?' So it is such a wonderful thing to see, such a generous thought," Young said.

"There are no words to explain it. I'll never forget this. It'll always be in my heart and in my mind forever. It was beautiful, it was," Przybysz said.
