(Orchard Park) The Buffalo Bills filled a big need with the third overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night by selecting Alabama Defensive End Marcell Dareus.

Bills GM Buddy NIx was excited about the pick. "It's like christmas, opening the presents. we really liked this guy. everybody did. and we had him really high from day one", said Nix. "We really didn't think he'd be there. every body says that, i know, every year, but we're excited about having him" , added Nix.

The 6-foot-3, 320 pounder was one of the nation's most versatile defensive lineman in college, In three seasons at Alabama he played in 33 games, including 11 in 2010. He finished last season with 33 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks.

"Chance to shine some light on the city. They say it's too cold.", said Dareus immediately after being selected. "I'm going to bring some warmth to it."

Dareus should immediately help a Bills run defense that ranked dead last in the NFL in 2010, and gave up nearly 170 yards per game on the ground. He should also help improve the Bills pass rush. Chan Gailey said Dareus was not given enough credit for his pass rush ability in college. He's a "forceful player", said Gailey.

Gailey says Dareus would fit into any defense, but sees the third overall pick playing defensive end for the Bills.
