ORCHARD PARK, NY – ( release) The Buffalo Bills today announced that the team has signed unrestricted free agents QB/WR Brad Smith and QB Tyler Thigpen and re-signed CB Drayton Florence. In accordance with team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Smith finished second in the NFL in 2010 with a 28.6 kickoff return average (50-1,432) and carried the ball 38 times for 299 yards with one touchdown. The 6-2, 210-pound Missouri product entered the NFL as a fourth-round (103rd overall) draft pick of the Jets in 2006 and has played in 76 career games.
Thigpen set career-highs in 2008 with Kansas City, completing 230-of-420 passes for 2,608 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions under then Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Chan Gailey. The 6-1, 224-pound Coastal Carolina product entered the NFL as a seventh-round (217th overall) draft pick of Minnesota in 2007.
Florence started all 16 games with Buffalo in 2010 and registered 58 tackles (49 solo) with three interceptions and 16 passes defensed.
The Bills also announced that TE Scott Chandler and LS Garrison Sanborn have accepted their tenders and signed their contracts. Buffalo also signed undrafted free agent DE Jordan Topp – Louisiana-Lafayette.
The team also placed CB Reggie Corner and OT Cordaro Howard on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list.
