According to USA Today, a Maryland philanthropist has donated $7.5 million to help pay for repairs to the Washington Monument, which was damaged in an earthquake last August.

The donation by billionaire David Rubenstein matches federal funding that was approved by Congress late last year, according to USA Today. The repairs are expected to begin by August and take 10 months, according to the USA Today story.
