(Bergen, N.Y.) For the people who live in the Village of Bergen, trains are a normal part of life. Main line tracks run through the business district. Residents say it is not unusual to see several dozen trains rumble through Bergen on a daily basis.

Last Friday, residents were shocked to hear that 16-year old Eric Wall was killed while trying to run across the train tracks in front of an Amtrak passenger train.

The teen was struck by the Amtrak and thrown in front of a freight train traveling in the opposite direction.

Wednesday morning, the Bergen United Methodist Church was filled to overflow capacity for the young man's funeral.

Buses from the Byron-Bergen Central School district transported a large number of students to the service.

Village officials are now discussing ways to make the the railroad crossing safer to avoid another tragedy.
