IRVING, NY (WKBW-TV) - Over 60 donated baskets, numerous baked goods and a 50/50 raffle raised over $6,600 for the family of Sheridan Fire Chief Jeffery Roberts.
Roberts, 33-years-old, was accidentally shot and killed earlier this month while hunting with his friends and family. Authorities continue to investigate, reporting that he was shot, but not with his own gun.
The community continues to mourn the sad loss.
"Jeff was very ambitious, help anybody. You know, if you asked him for help he was there. Spent 10 years in the department and rose to chief already so that tells you something," Retired Fire Fighter Richard Feinen said.
The fundraiser took place Friday morning at the Lake Shore Hospital in Irving.
The bake sale was set up by co-workers of Roberts' wife Katie at the Lake Shore Health Center in Irving. News quickly spread of the benefit and numerous members of the community jumped on board to give their support for the family.
Roberts leaves behind his wife Katie and two children.
In addition, a fund has been set up to help the Roberts children -
