CHEEKTOWAGA, NY (WKBW) - A Western New York woman is in need of a miracle. She is desperate for a kidney, and the community is coming out to help her find a donor and raise money for a transplant.

Doctors didn't expect Jessica Frysz to live past the age of 14, but she continues to defy the odds. The 25-year old has spent almost all of her life on dialysis. She was just a year old when a rare blood disease caused her kidneys to fail, and Eyewitness News has been following her story from the very beginning. Her mom was interviewed back in 1990 about Jessica's need for a transplant.

Surviving on dialysis for all these years is taking a toll on Jessica. It's causing her veins to shrink and harden, and her right leg has become the only place where she can receive the lifesaving procedure.

Now her family and friends are holding a benefit to help raise money for a transplant and to help find a live donor.

Jessica's case is challenging. Her disease prevents someone in her family from donating, and she is hoping someone out there will be a match and allow her to live a more normal life.

A benefit for Jessica Frysz will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Polish Falcons, 445 Columbia Avenue in Depew.

If you or someone you know is interested in donating a kidney to Jessica, a simple blood test will determine if you are a compatible donor. For more information, contact her by phone or email.
She can be reached at (716)-507-5981 or at shortfry06@aol.com or rgall1@jhmi.edu.
