Barn Fire in Ripley

January 3, 2011 Updated Oct 24, 2013 at 10:35 AM EDT

Ripley, NY (WKBW-TV)
An early morning structure fire at 10771 Northeast Sherman Road in Ripley has left a barn a total loss. Ripley Fire, South Ripley Fire, Sherman Fire and North East Fire Departments all responded to the scene of the fire--flames had engulfed the building upon their arrival.

The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team investigated the fire and found that the cause was due to a heat lamp that was being utilized to keep several baby pigs warm. This light apparently came in contact with some hay near the lamp which led to the barn catching fire. 12 pigs total were killed in the fire.
