AMHERST, NY ( release ) A man wanted in connection with an Amherst bank robbery was taken into custody by members of the Town of Tonawanda Emergency Response Team after a one hour standoff at the Mighty Taco Restaurant at Delaware and Sheridan Drive.
Patrick McGroder, 51, of Amherst was arrested in the early afternoon Thursday after refusing to come out of the mens room at the restaurant.
The incident began shortly after 1p.m. when a citizen at the restaurant recognized McGroder from media reports and called police.
McGroder went into the mens room when he saw police and refused to come out.
The restaurant was evacuated. After about an hour of negotiations, he was taken into custody without incident.
McGroder is being charged with the robbery of the M&T Bank at 1201 Niagara Falls Blvd., by Amherst detectives Robert Cunningham and Herbert Leising.
McGroder paroled out of prison on Sept. 14th on a previous bank robbery charge.
Buffalo Police detectives also consider McGroder a person of interest in a bank robbery that occurred at the M&T Bank at Delaware and Hertel on September 16th.
McGroder is being held pending arraignment today before Amherst Justice Geoffrey Klein.
