Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - A crash over the weekend left a 47-year-old man dead, after his car plunged from Humboldt Parkway onto the Kensington Expressway and burst into flames.

Now, we are learning that an NFTA officer had chased that vehicle shortly before the fiery ending.

The crash started early Saturday morning, when NFTA officers were responding to a different call.

NFTA spokesperson Doug Hartmeyer explains that "at one point in time, two cars went at a very high rate of speed, traveling northbound." Hartmeyer says one vehicle almost hit an officer -- who then gave chase.

Brown's vehicle ended up going the wrong way down Woodlawn Avenue near Humboldt Parkway. It went through the rail, crashing onto the Kensington Expressway below.

The police officer and a nearby rural metro crew tried to save Brown but could not.

Buffalo Police and the NFTA are both investigating. The results of the investigation will be presented to the Erie County District Attorney.
