Buffalo, NY (WKBW) - An Amber Alert on Monday ended with a twist. The teenager who the Amber Alert was issued for ended up facing charges herself.
However, authorities still stand by the Amber Alert system. It has been activated 50 times for a total of 59 children in New York State since 2002. Every child has returned home safely.
Of those 50 activations, 23 were solved by residents who provided law enforcement with tips through the Amber Alert system.
A federal system sends out automatic text messages when a license plate is available through the Wireless Electronic Alert system. You can also receive Amber Alerts by signing up at nyalert.gov.
