Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WKBW)- Niagara Falls is a sight to see but that beauty could be dangerous as one Canadian woman found out after an accident takes her life.

According to Niagara Falls Park Police in Ontario, two women in their 20's were taking in the sights on the Canadian side of the falls when one woman climb the barrier. She was straddling the metal railing at the edge of the river.

Falls spectator Tom Kelkis said it's a force to be reckoned with.

"It's beautiful and obviously a dangerous situation and it must be treated with respect just like at the beach or the Grand Canon or any of nature's wonders," Kelkis said.

Minutes later around 8:30 p.m., she tried to climb back over to the safe side of the railing when she lost her footing and fell in the fast flowing rapids. Where she fell in was just feet from the edge of the falls. Authorities said the woman did go over the falls and is presumed dead.

"It's surprising how nature has this force and how much water is coming," Spectator Maria Delmar said," Delmar said.

Authorities began a search for her body Sunday night but darkness forced them to stop for the night.

"The power you see here. The water is strong and it's right next to you so you have to be careful," Spectator Laura Peplinsky said.

When the resumed this morning with helicopters and thermal imaging cameras, they had to again halt the search because of bad weather. They continue the ground search. No foul play is suspect they are calling this a tragic accident.
