The political battle over Buffalo's next police commissioner is getting even more heated this weekend. State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt (D-Buffalo) is now publicly saying "Dan Derenda is not the man" for the job. Derenda has been serving as the acting commissioner for the past several months and Mayor Byron Brown recently nominated Derenda for the post permanently. The Buffalo Common Council though has yet to approve the appointment and tabled the matter this week while questioning whether the mayor did a national search of candidates. Assemblyman Hoyt is known as a political enemy of Mayor Brown.
