Arrest Made in Shooting Death of Bus Driver

(Buffalo, NY) Buffalo Police announced Wednesday evening, that they made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of 39-year old, Brian G. Chapman, Jr.

Chapman was gunned down early Wednesday morning, as he waited on his porch for a ride to work in the 300 block of Guilford Street, Buffalo.

The victim was taken to the Erie County Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Since 2000, Brian Chapman worked as a bus driver for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.

"An alert Buffalo police officer on routine patrol, Ferry-Fillmore District Officer Dennis R. Gilbert, happened to be in the vicinity when he heard multiple shots fired. A vehicle was stopped shortly thereafter and was believed to be involved in the shooting incident," said Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives for Buffalo Police.

Police recovered a 38-caliber revolver that was thrown from the suspect's vehicle.

24-year old Joshua J. Mitchell, of Buffalo, is now in police custody.

The suspect faces two felony weapons counts, including a charge for having been previously convicted of a crime in 2007.

Additional charges may be filed against the defendant as the investigation continues.
