For example, one uses a smartphone to diagnose disease in remote locations of third world countries, where there is limited access to resources. Officials say they get 100 new technology disclosures a year on average at UB. The researchers are already working with pharmaceutical companies on ways to diagnose disease. and many of these ideas are becoming spin off companies. Meanwhile, Medaille College is hosting Buffalo's second Startup Weekend, where entrepreneurs get 60 seconds to present innovative business ideas to an expert panel. At the end of the 54 hour event, a panel of judges will award prizes to help teams build their startups.
The top three companies will make a pitch to land a spot at a business incubator in Buffalo.
