The American Heart Association has named Elizabeth Zulawski as its new executive director for the Buffalo Niagara region.

Zulawski comes to the post from the Buffalo Public Schools Foundation, where she served as its first executive director. In that job, she is credited with increasing revenue over a two-year period.

She has more than 20 years' experience in the nonprofit sector, including a previous post at the American Heart Association as senior corporate events director.

She will manage a staff of 10 volunteers, overseeing campaign activities and fundraising and provides leadership for local activities in the Buffalo-Niagara territory.

Zulawski replaces Cronan Long, who served six years in the post until his resignation late last year.

The national health agency works to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The local office, based in Amherst, is part of the Founders Affiliate chapter, which includes eight East Coast states from Maine down to Rhode Island.
