According to Alpina, Latin American foods have increasingly grown in popularity in North and South America. This trend has led the company to expand its Alpina Avena line of oat smoothies. The company contracts its beverage-making out to New York-based facilities.

This month, the company is introducing new packaging and flavors of the 18-year-old product line. The products are sold in select Western New York stores and distributed through Goya Foods.
Alpina's cold oatmeal drink recipe follows the generations-old tradition of El Espinal, a region in the company's home country of Colombia. Alpina began manufacturing Avena there in 1996. The first mass-produced oatmeal drink, Avena became a top-selling brand of oat-based drinks in Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and accepted across Central America.
