CUBA, NY ( WKBW-TV) - A southern tier school district may be forced to close an elementary school. The Cuba-Rushford Central School District is facing a $2 million budget gap for next school year and now the district is considering closing the Rushford Elementary School
Cuba-Rushford Central School District superintendent Kevin Shanley told the Olean Times Herald, the district is facing a very serious 2012-13 budget year gap that it needs to close and that closing the elementary school would be a big step towards doing so.
“Our (the board’s) initial projections are that it would save more than $900,000 in cost savings to close that building,” he said. “The board still has to make a decision on how much fund balance and reserves it would have to use to close that gap and how much they’re going to raise in the tax levy. Of course we’re limited on that, too, with the tax cap limits. Those things still need to be decided, but everything is being considered that’s not mandated at this point.”
