Rochester, N.Y. –(13WHAM) An umbrella with a Samurai-sword looking handle was mistaken for a possible gun on the RIT campus Friday morning according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

A bus driver spotted someone with an object that looked like a gun, but the item was only an umbrella.

A campus alert was sent out to RIT students and staff warning about a possible gunman near Kate Gleason Hall.

Authorities found the student and determined there was no threat to public safety.

The "Shelter In Place" advisory to stay indoors was lifted at 9:23 a.m.

A tweet from RIT says the police investigation determined the umbrella handle looked like a Samurai sword.
