Advisory: Boil Water Order issued for Village of Forestville

November 21, 2012 Updated Nov 21, 2012 at 5:10 PM EDT

Forestville, NY (WKBW/Release) - Routine water samples collected from the Village of Forestville water system on November 20 have shown that the water may contain potentially harmful bacteria.

As a precaution, the Chautauqua County Health Department is asking all customers of the Village of Forestville water supply to boil all water for drinking and cooking.

Do not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

What is being done?

Additional water supply samples were collected on November 21 to determine if a true system-wide contamination exists or if the contamination was isolated to a single water tap sample. Results of these samples will be available the afternoon of November 22 and the Health Department will issue further guidance at that time.
