6th Annual "Turning the Falls Purple"

NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW/Release) - October 1st, Niagara Falls and the Peace Bridge will be illuminated in purple to commemorate October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Child & Family Services' Haven House will host a press conference before the first lighting of Niagara Falls. Immediately following the press conference, the group will walk to Prospect Point to view the remarkable Falls bathed in purple lights.

A moment of silence will be observed to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Both the American and Canadian Falls will be lit in purple from 7:30 P.M. - 7:45 P.M., 8:30 P.M. - 8:45 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. - 9:45 P.M. The Peace Bridge will be lit in purple from 8 P.M. until 1 A.M.

Child & Family Services will also be involved in other events to raise awareness about domestic violence throughout October.

On Wednesday, October 17th, agency staff will participate in "Go Violet to End Violence" by wearing purple in the workplace. "Go Violet to End Violence" is organized annually by the Erie County Coalition Against Family Violence.
