BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) - Buffalo's waterfront is quickly becoming the place to be downtown, especially this 4th of July weekend, with thousands coming down to enjoy the new amenities.
"It's terrific, the music and everything. I'm very impressed. I didn't think I would live to see it," said Ruth Michalski, a West Seneca resident who was enjoying the Commercial Strip Monday afternoon.
Organizers say as many as 40,000 people gathered along the waterfront throughout the weekend between Thursday in the Square, the Friday concert series and Monday's Independence Day celebration.
Monday's festivities included a flag ceremony in honor of our veterans, along with act ivies for kids and live music. The party was capped-off with a professional fireworks display over the water that wowed the crowd.
Down Route 5 a way in Evans and Angola, thousands came out to the Lake Erie waterfront to celebrate Independence Day.
Many crowded the beach and enjoyed the water, while a number of families just enjoyed the weather while celebrating the 4th.
Evans Police along with the Erie County Sheriff's Department were out in force and will be holding checkpoints at key intersections near the park and along the beach to ensure everyone enjoys a safe celebration.
