The Town of Hamburg already has four feet of snow, but residents got hit hard again on Thursday by Mother Nature.

Nearly a foot of snow fell overnight covering up areas where residents had struggled to clean out.

While the new snow was light and fluffy, it adds to 48" of thick-packed snow that is already on the ground.

The weight of the snow is bringing down tree limbs and placing stress of roof tops.

Hamburg Police evacuated the BJ's Wholesale Club store at 4408 Milestrip Road in Blasdell after it was determined by engineers that the roof had been compromised.

During a morning press conference, Erie County officials warned residents to hire professionals and avoid placing themselves in danger by trying to clear roofs themselves.

A travel ban continues in Hamburg as crews work around-the-clock to clear main roads.

Town Supervisor Steven Walters tells Eyewitness News, during a morning interview with Laura Gray, that residents will find most side streets have not seen a plow.

Walters said crews are doing their best but the main roads have to be concentrated on first.

Hamburg residents are again being warned to stay off the roads especially as the 2nd round of the lake effect storm slammed the town.

During the afternoon, heavy snow with white-out conditions dumped even more snow on the area.

Early estimates said it was anywhere from one to two feet.

The snow caused the roof at Schmidt's Collision & Glass on Lake Street to collapse.

No injuries were reported, but police warned people in other flat-roof structures to dress warmly and stay by the front door so they can be found if their roof caves in.

Seven Eyewitness News Reporter Ed Reilly filed this report from Hamburg.
