WESTERN NEW YORK (Business First) - It has been almost a week since election day, and a breakdown of votes is finally available for the statewide casino referendum.

New York voters approved Proposal 1, allowing the creation of as many as seven casinos. But the Albany Times Union says that 23 counties -- including all eight in Western New York -- voted against the proposition.

Monroe and Wayne counties in the Rochester area also voted no, as did Onondaga County (Syracuse) and four counties in the Albany region.

The statewide vote count shows that 57 percent of voters were in favor of the casino proposal.

Only one Downstate county -- New York County (a/k/a Manhattan) -- voted no.
