The 2014 Gus Macker Tournament, a three-on-three basketball competition, draws nearly 50,000 players and fans to downtown Buffalo each year and if this year's tournament is cancelled it will be a huge blow to the city.
The event is hosted by the Buffalo Police Athletic League (PAL). Its Board of Directors met Wednesday but haven't made a final decision on whether they'll move forward with the event.
"The sponsorship dollars haven't been what they've been in the past and we're trying to run the same tournament the same way and in come cases even do it a little bit better with limited resources," said Modie Cox, the Executive Director of PAL.
Cox went on to tell us that a drop in players in the top men and women's divisions is also impacting the future of the event.
The members are expected to decide on whether or not to go forward with the tournament within the next few days.
