2 Injured as Car Strikes Golf Cart

BYRON, NY (release) - The Genesee County Sheriff's office is investigating a motor vehicle accident that seriously injured two teenagers in the Town of Byron, NY.

Deputies say, 18-year-old Cortney Greene and 18-year-old Zachary Rusin were traveling north on Route 237 in a golf cart just after midnight Saturday morning when a car struck them from behind. The two teens were ejected from the cart and thrown into the roadway. The golf cart then crossed both lanes of the road and struck a parked vehicle.

Rusin suffered head trauma and other internal injuries and was transported by MercyFlight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is listed in guarded condition in the Trauma Intensive Care Unit. Greene suffered head and facial injuries and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

The passenger driving the car, 19-year-old Emmaleigh Odom, was not injured.

Deputies say alcohol is considered a factor in the accident and charges are pending against the operator of the golf cart.

The accident remains against under investigation.
