Sale of 450 State Vehicles Under Way on eBay

April 3, 2012 Updated Apr 3, 2012 at 11:21 AM EDT

Albany, N.Y. (WKBW release) -- Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito on Tuesday announced that NYSStore.com is now operational.

The website links consumers to surplus state government personal property and real estate being sold on eBay and through other methods. The launch of the site coincides with the start of an eBay sale that features more than 450 state vehicles that are being sold as part of Governor Cuomo's fleet reduction initiative.

Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Barbara Fiala was also on hand to provide details on a special program that will provide onsite registration and license plates for the vehicles following the auction.

"NYSStore.com is an easy way for people to learn about vehicles and other items the state has for sale on eBay," Commissioner Destito said. "The fleet reduction initiative, along with the introduction of Business Services Centers, the real estate optimization initiative and strategic sourcing are excellent examples of how OGS is helping Governor Cuomo meet his goal to increase efficiency in government and reduce costs for taxpayers."

"We are pleased to be able to assist the Office of General Services in implementing Governor Cuomo's directive to reduce operating costs while generating additional revenue through the sale of unneeded state vehicles," Commissioner Fiala said. "Such a cooperative endeavor will result in great benefit to the taxpayers of New York State and we are proud to be part of this effort."

The vehicles, which are located in Albany at the Harriman State Office Campus, came from 15 different agencies. This is the first in a series of sales that will reduce the size of the state's passenger-vehicle fleet, which now stands at more than 4700. In addition to the vehicles located in Albany, the sale also includes a communications tower and a bulldozer, which are off-site. Starting in mid-April, OGS will continue to host live auctions for the sale of surplus vehicles in various locations statewide.

The vehicles each have a minimum bid of $500 and the auctions will conclude on April 13. The successful bidder will be required to make a deposit of $500 for each vehicle purchased via PayPal. Payment in full can be made via a credit card, cashier's check or money order. Payment may be made in advance via cashier's check or money order. All acceptable forms of payment will be accepted at vehicle pick up. Checks and money orders should be made out to NYS OGS and mailed to NYS Office of General Services, W. Averell Harriman State Campus – Building #18, Albany, NY 12226.

Vehicle inspections will be held at lots B and C of the Harriman State Office Campus on the dates listed below. At the request of prospective bidders, vehicles will be started and engine compartments, doors, and trunks will be opened.
