BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) - A 14-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to second degree murder and possession of a weapon in Erie County Court Monday.

Myles Taylor, of Buffalo, is accused of shooting and killing 16-year-old Kelmyne Jones after a fight, allegedly over sneakers, on July 6th on Northland Avenue in Buffalo.

Taylor is being charged as an adult. However, his defense attorney says there will be legal motions to determine if he should indeed be charged as a minor.

Cameras were not allowed in court on Monday because of the suspect's age.

Taylor is in 8th grade at Waterfront Elementary School and still coming to terms with what he has done.

"He is mystified, he is confused, he is 14," said Defense Attorney John Molloy. " He is in 8th grade and is very very confused."

Molloy says his client does not have a criminal record.

Motions to determine whether Taylor should be tried as an adult are set for September and a trial is set for November.

The prosecution and family members declined to comment.
