CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WKBW) – Police in North Carolina tell WSOC-TV they have captured a man they think brutally murdered a pregnant woman, originally from Lockport.
Police said the man was recently released from prison on other charges.
Mark Cox, 22, is accused of killing Danielle Watson, 25. She was working at the Flying Biscuit Café in North Carolina. Police said they believe the suspect is a co-worker.
Watson’s finance got a call from her on Friday while she was working but he could not make out what she was saying. When the phone went dead, he decided to text message her. When he didn’t get any response, he called police. They proceeded to the wrong address and did not get back to Watson’s fiancé until the next morning.
That is when authorities got a call about a robbery at the Flying Biscuit Restaurant, where Watson was working.
Later that day, a sanitation worker was picking up trash when he discovered Watson’s body in a dumpster near the Flying Biscuit Café.
“It didn't sound like anything. It was muffled but there was definitely a conversation. I called 911 and I said I got a weird phone call. They said that they would call me back after they got to the restaurant and never got a call back,” Watson’s Fiancé Keith Smith said.
Police said that Cox fled the scene in Danielle’s’ two-door blue Chevy Cavalier. Warrants were signed for his arrest. Earlier Police stated that he will be charged with murder and two counts of armed robbery.
Cox was recently released from prison after serving time on robbery charges. Charlotte Police are asking anyone with information to call North Carolina Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
