U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers have confiscated 13,200 pounds of tobacco at the Peace Bridge back on January 4th.
Members of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs became suspicious when an outbound pickup truck towing a trailer back in December contained unlabeled boxes of loose-leaf tobacco.
Homeland Security launched an investigation and found that smugglers were moving tobacco over the border in an attempt to avoid paying U.S. and Canadian taxes and duties.
According to officials, the tobacco is worth more than $530,000.
