A 12-year-old child has been air-flighted to Children's Hospital, after jumping from a third story bathroom window at Emmet Belknap School in Lockport.

According to a source, the child has a broken leg, and possible internal injuries. Lockport Police say the child is alert and conscious at the hospital.

Right now, it's unclear why the child jumped from the window.

According to the Lockport City School District, the school activated a 'hold-in-place' during the incident. The district says that they are cooperating with law enforcement's investigation of the matter.

The Emmet Belknap PTSA sent the following statement:

"The PTSA is saddened to hear about the events that lead to one of our students requiring medical attention. Our thoughts are with that student, and we hope for a quick and complete recovery. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Emmet Belknap and the district for their quick response today. They followed procedures that are in place and were able to get medical attention to a child in need while keeping all of our other students safe."
