(Buffalo, N.Y) A family has filed a lawsuit in Erie County Supreme Court claiming that their 11-year old daughter was raped and became pregnant after attending a YMCA summer camp in Buffalo.
According to the family's attorney, John Elmore from Brown Chiari LLP, the incidents occurred at the Ellicott-Masten YMCA (formerly known as the William-Emslie YMCA) in July 2010.
It is alleged that 17-year old summer camp youth counselor, Martel Jones, took the young girl to a downstairs sauna on two occasions.
When YMCA officials suspected "inappropriate conduct," the teen employee was "immediately removed from the YMCA and the incident was reported to the parent of the child involved."
However, Attorney Elmore says the family was not advised that there was possible sexual contact.
In December 2010, the victim's mother noticed that her daughter's stomach was getting larger. When she was checked by a doctor, it was found that she was pregnant and had contracted a venereal disease.
The young girl gave birth to a baby boy in March.
Buffalo Police Sex Offenses Squad arrested Martel Jones in April.
Jones is charged with four counts of rape - two of them are in the first degree.
