EAST AURORA, N.Y. (WKBW) - As part of a reorganization of business structure, Mattel subsidiary Fisher Price has announced the relocation of 100 jobs from their East Aurora location to California.
According to the company, 100 notices were sent out at the Girard Avenue facility, offering employees the opportunity to relocate to Mattel's home office in El Segunda, California.
Fisher Price released a statement, which states:
"In 2012, Mattel reorganized its business structure, creating the North America Division, which focuses on planning, executing and making decisions more closely with our retail customers in the U.S. and Canada. This new structure sets Mattel up for more consistent growth and allows the creative teams to focus more of their creative energy on growing Mattel’s brands globally.
As we continue to evolve this structure and better align with the business, the decision has been made to consolidate some positions that are part of the North America Division to its headquarters in El Segundo, Calif., by mid-October. This decision will allow us to better match resources with the needs of the business.
As part of this consolidation, there will be a range of immediate to phased job reassignments over the next several months, as well as select layoffs at Mattel’s Fisher-Price campus in East Aurora, N.Y and its offices in New York City. Employees who accept reassigned positions will relocate to Mattel’s El Segundo headquarters campus in Southern California. Employees were notified of this decision today.
It is important to point out that employees who work in design and development positions at Mattel’s Fisher-Price campuses are not affected by this consolidation.
The decision was an extremely difficult one, particularly considering the impact this will have on a number of our employees and their families. Mattel is committed to treating every employee fairly, and with dignity and respect. Mattel will offer full relocation benefits to those employees who choose to accept positions in Southern California. Employees who decide to leave the company will be offered severance benefits, outplacement services and other transitional support to help during the transition over the next several months.
