A 10-year-old boy was taken by Mercy Flight to Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo on Sunday night after he was hit by a vehicle on Route 77 in Pembroke.

The Genesee County Sheriff's Office tells 7 Eyewitness news the boy was hit around 8:15 p.m. near the entrance to the New York State Thruway. The boy was crossing Route 77 (Alleghany Road) between the Flying J and the Econolodge when he was hit. A chief deputy says the driver initially thought he hit a deer, and turned around to check.

The boy's current condition is unknown, but investigators say his injuries appeared to be serious. Investigators say the child was traveling with his mother as part of a group on a bus, but that the boy was alone when he crossed the road.

The driver has not been charged.
